The Rainbow Committee provides a gateway for those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community to meet and engage with SGI-UK. Our purpose is to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals to learn about and explore the life affirming philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism, and importantly to connect with the humanistic movement established by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda. Individuals will also be introduced to their local district where they can practise with members in their local community. SGI-UK is firmly committed to upholding the equality that is enshrined at the heart of the Lotus Sutra. The Lotus Sutra is one of the most revered teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. A central message is the parable of the Dragon King’s Daughter who, at a key moment, steps forward to reveal her enlightenment to the astonishment of the gathered bodhisattvas. This is a powerful metaphor that clearly demonstrates that anyone, anywhere has this potential to reveal the life state of the Buddha within them.
